Cause Description:
The Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center (SCLC) is a not-for-profit community center located in Costa Rica with offices based in FLorida. The mission of the SCLC is to foster education, environmental conservation, artistic expression and responsible tourism in the rural communities of Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí, Costa Rica. Our goal is to be a resource for the Sarapiquí community by providing and coordinating activities that will both enhance their education, and support sustainable development in the area. Programs we offer to adults and children in the area are: English classes at two local public schools as well as classes for adults at night, environmental education club that is made up of 40 local school children, art classes for women, an after school program that includes arts and crafts, music, sports, a book club and environmental activities, a computer education program, an art gallery, a scholarship program that allows students to attend 5 years of high school, a public library, support groups for teenage mothers, eco-toursim activities and community service projects.
