Cause Description:
LOVS was established in 1985 as a support group to help surviving family members and friends deal with the grief and trauma associated with homicide. As a result, LOVS provides individual, family, and group counseling to surviving family members and friends of victims of violent crimes. This includes adults, teens, and children Many of LOVS’ clients are residents in communities with high crime rates and a limited Police presence. Additionally, LOVS provides counseling to survivors of aggravated assaults, including gunshot victims. LOVS is the only existing program of its kind that offers such specialized services for surviving family members and survivors of aggravated assaults. The services provided by LOVS are essential in reducing the psychological damage of the crime, as well as increasing the family member’s ability and willingness to cooperate in the criminal justice process. LOVS operates with limited resources while still providing services to economically disadvantaged clients. LOVS continues to provide services even if a client does not have the ability to pay.
