3PR Mission To provide excellent care for parrots relinquished to 3PR from across the Pikes Peak Region and to find them the perfect fit in a loving, permanent home in Colorado. To be a valued resource to a community that loves, protects and cares for parrots, even if they were not adopted from 3PR. 3PR Vision ? To educate the public through in-house educational programs, school programs, and exposure to our community through events that there are an overwhelming number of parrots in rescues within the state of Colorado that need forever homes. To obtain a debt-free property that can house quarantined birds in a series of buildings, giving 3PR the ability to care for, train, and properly rehabilitate birds before entering our adoption environment. To develop in-house training courses that will allow 3PR adoptive families and the general public to bring their birds in for classes, thereby decreasing the amount of relinquished birds in the state of Colorado. 3PR's "Why" Pikes Peak Parrot Rescue (3PR) exists to improve the lives of the birds in our care, to partner with the bird community in our region, and to provide follow-up care and education to our adoptive families. 1. Birds enter 3PR’s care for a variety of reasons, the two primary reasons being relinquishment and neglect. A majority of our birds have made their way to 3PR because a family or individual could no longer care for their bird due to physical, mental or social reasons. Some parrots can live up to 100 years old, often outliving their owners, and 3PR is tasked with helping these wonderful birds find a safe and reliable second home. These are the birds you will most likely meet when you visit. 3PR periodically receives a call from Law Enforcement or The Humane Society informing us that a bird has been neglected or found somewhere and we are asked to come rescue the bird. Every bird that is relinquished to 3PR enters through a medical intake and foster process. The cost to 3PR for medical care has been more than the adoption fee at times, but we refuse to let any bird suffer bad health for any reason. 2. The bird community in Colorado is close-knit and well-connected. The safety and well-being of the birds in Colorado are a big deal to 3PR. The interactive experience you will have when visiting 3PR is unlike any other rescue in the state. You can simply stop in during our normal business hours, sign a waiver, and you will be on your way to spending time with any of our incredible birds. 3PR has a unique relationship with the Pikes Peak Bird Club on Facebook, which helps us stay plugged in with the birds and bird owners in our community. So much is yet to be learned about these incredible creatures and we believe that together we can learn by sharing our stories of success and failure with each other. 3. The adoption process at 3PR works, it is that simple. There is a purpose behind every step in the process that ensures the best possible fit is made between the bird and adopter. The adoption of a bird from 3PR is just the beginning. There are birds that spend years at 3PR being rehabilitated before being adopted and they have become family. Your adoption of one of these birds is often compared to 3PR sharing their family with yours. While 3PR celebrates each successful adoption, follow-up care and education is vital to the success of your adoption. 3PR will never knock on your door, but we hope to hear from anyone who adopts if they have any questions at all. Your fears, struggles and challenges will not surprise us and there is a good chance 3PR will have 2 or 3 things you can try. You will never be left hanging once you have adopted from 3PR.
