Cause Description:
Civil Air Patrol – Pennsylvania Wing and its nearly 2,300 citizen volunteer members, in 80 squadron units throughout the state, serve the local communities perform search and rescue, homeland security and disaster relief missions by air and ground teams at the request of federal, state and local agencies including PEMA. In 2008 Pennsylvania members were credited with 17 lives saved. CAP PA also provides the 16-achievment Cadet program for 1,050 young adults age 12 to 21, developing tomorrow’s leaders today. CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs 90% of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 72 lives in fiscal year 2009 and 91 lives in FY 2008. Volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counter-drug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to the more than 23,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs.
