Cause Description:
United Vision for Idaho was founded in 1995 after many years of wedge politics left activists isolated and divided. Today, UVI is a collation consisting of more than twenty-five non-profit organizations. Together with our partners, affiliates and individual members it is our mission is to transform the political landscape of Idaho by promoting education and understanding of public policy which allows every person to live with dignity and security in a healthy environment; by building relationships and open communication at the community level; by promoting public dialogue on the common values of the coalition; and by working to empower participation in democracy. United Vision for Idaho works to advance economic, social, and environmental justice. We seek to enhance access for all people, without discrimination to the tools and resources that enable them to enhance their lives, that of their families, communities, state and nation. We believe that far more unites than divides us and through collaborative grassroots work, we can change public policy, dismantle oppression, and enhance the equality, dignity, and power of all people. UVI has 3 long-term strategic goals: 1. Improve the infrastructure of grassroots groups working for social change and the skills of their leaders. This is rooted in our belief that long-term change happens through organized groups of people – not just individual acts – fueled by diverse and skilled leaders. 2. Mobilize collaborative issue campaigns to change public policy on both the state and federal level. This is rooted in our belief that long-term change happens when different constituencies work together towards a common goal. 3. Develop and use language and new forms of communication in public discourse that unites people around common values. This is rooted in our belief that we must describe our world in ways that dismantle oppression and enhance the equality, dignity, and power of all people.
